I'm a geek. Particularly with respect to computers, A/V equipment, and roleplaying games, but I've got a pretty wide range of interests. I've been involved with fandom (science fiction in general, Star Trek, fantasy, furry, anime, etc.), student and community groups, and running conventions in SW Virginia since the mid-80s, when I first came to Virginia Tech. Currently, I'm actively involved in VTSFFC, Technicon, Yeager, and Rising Star, and less actively with SOAP-VT. I've been involved with various historical groups over the years, such as the SCA and the 20th Maine (US Civil War); I've drifted away from these lately. I play roleplaying games regularly, with a preference for GURPS and Hero System, and have done a fair amount of playtesting, particularly for GURPS. I'm a moderatly-serious Lego fan (AFOL), with a preference for Castle, Space, and Pirate lines. Much of my on-line time these days is taken up with Final Fantasy XI... here are my character profiles (increasingly out of date) for Miuramir and Totaru, both on the Midgardsormr server. I've recently set up a separate LJ for FF-XI, miuramir. Professionally, I've had a variety of positions involving various combinations of drafting, computer programming, digital photography and photo editing, system administration, web design, educational courseware development, editing and layout, and video broadcasting. I'm currently employed as the Network & Systems Administrator for two different Virginia Tech research groups, the Center for Wireless Telecommunications (CWT) and the Center for Geospatial Information Technology (CGIT); plus the umbrella group Wireless @ Virginia Tech (W@VT).
